I am happy to announce Sainsbury’s Charlton Riverside … open!

It seemed like forever in the planning and construction but the new, modern Sainsbury’s Charlton Riverside has this morning opened its doors.

The store, is replacing the Greenwich Sainsbury’s (the one used in all the TV ads) a pioneer in its architecture and famed for its wind turbines. However those thinking that the new replacement store will lack in its eco friendly credentials should think again. Auto lighting, rain water collection and 200 metre ground source heat pumps are only some of the bells and whistles that will keep this store ticking over.

We popped in last night before doors opened for a sneaky peek tour and Store Manager Bill Woledge confirmed that’s not all – expect the pharmacy to be fully functional in around 6 weeks time and a home delivery hub to be up and running in 15 weeks.

Plans for the on site Dentist and Gym/Dance studio are also in the final stages with the Timpsons Dry Cleaning and Explore Learning concessions ready to go.

Regarding the Dance studio, we have heard Sainsbury’s are open to alternative child friendly uses and are considering other options – so if you have any idea, we’re sure they’d like to hear it. Let us know and we’ll pass it on!

The WC’s are roomy, the babychange is large enough for the widest of prams and the allocation of trolleys with child seating (even twin trolleys) looks good too.

Covering 65,000 square feet and creating 140 new, local jobs. taking the total count to 400, the store offers 305 free parking spaces with a decent allocation of parent and disabled parking. It features meat, fish and deli counters, as well as hot food and pizza to go and 2 ATM’s.

Elsewhere, there is also a large selection of TU clothing and non-food products available, including Sainsbury’s homewares, as well as an in-store café.

The existing petrol station, just down the road from the new store, will continue to serve local customers as well.

Open from 7am until midnight on weekdays and 7am until 11pm on Saturdays and 11am until 5pm on Sundays.

Greenwichmums gives it a big thumbs up!
