All change at The Greenwich Tavern

251941_493332697360001_720080470_nSet on the corner of King William Walk opposite the main park entrance, The Greenwich Tavern is a landmark pub, familiar to many residents of SE10. What those same people may not know though is that it has recently changed hands, and the new landlords – who’ve lived & worked in the area for over 30 years – have very different plans for the place.

They recently invited Greenwichmums along to find out more…

Families are at the heart of the new Greenwich Tavern and to prove a point they’ve already started making changes to help them settle right in. Children are welcome day & night (yes, at night too as long as with a parent) and due to their kind of clientele – Hiren Patel who manages the pub thinks there’s little risk involved for even the most curious of toddlers.

greentav1To help parents with smaller children, there are more specific developments going on, like;

– A Buggy Park set in it’s own dedicated roped-off area inside the pub. With space for 8 pushchairs, parents simply drop off their pram and receive a ticket from the bar. It’s probably SE10’s very first Buggy-Valet service.

A brand new Babychange in the redecorated disabled toilets – easily accessible off the main bar area. This is set to be equipped with an automatic hand sanitiser, wall mounted wet wipe holder and extra hand moisturiser to save mums hands getting dried out.

– The ‘treehouse’ area upstairs is a dedicated quiet space for Mums who’d like a little privacy if they want to breastfeed (although they are welcome anywhere) or just to sit & relax with their children away from the main bar. It’s open everyday as long as there’s no event planned and mum’s can text in their food & drink order without having to travel downstairs. (NB – for mums with prams in the Buggy Park, just let the bar know you’re going upstairs)

FREE kids milk with ANY adult purchase from the bar. And if you bring your own, they’ve got new bottle warmers for that and food jars too.

Mumscard! Yes, The Greenwich Tavern have joined up so any current cardholder will receive 10% off their food & drinks bill, valid anytime PLUS room hire if you need a party venue.

In addition to families, they are keen to attract the small army of professionals in Greenwich who work from a laptop through their door. They’re set to do this by providing a dedicated workspace of their own, on the first floor in the old King William Restaurant.

The area has superfast WiFi and it’s own coffee machine – essential, as GreenwichDad would tell you. Perfect if you prefer somewhere busier than a library, but quieter than a coffee shop with better food and far less tourists. Water’s quite literally on tap, and capsules will be dispensed by the barstaff who’ll regularly make their rounds to check everyone’s happy, take food & drink orders if necessary – helping people concentrate on reducing their burgeoning to-do list.

Finally, when people are finished working and the kids are being looked after – the Tavern is now offering a new roster of live events to fill customers time. These include;

– Live Jazz on a Wednesday night
– Friday night is a live Acoustic night with cocktails on happy hour all evening
– Saturday night relives times gone by with music from the 90’s and the 00’s
– A monthly Poker Night for local Dad’s too. (GreenwichDad is particularly looking forward to this one)

And with no entry fee, ever, the majority of people should be able to enjoy proceedings.

So it certainly has been all change at the Tavern, but now Hiren is looking forward to welcoming people back into the venue. Watch this space for continuing developments being hosted there – like the emerging Greenwich Series networking event and ofcourse the continuation of a certain Wine O’Clock Club.

Lastly – they’re all about feedback – so when you visit please feel free to tell them what you think. Otherwise stay upto date with their activities online here, on Twitter (@Greenwich_Tav) or on Facebook.
