Focus on Shrewsbury House

Nestled on the slopes of Shooters Hill is Shrewsbury House, built in 1923 and has been a beacon for the local community for 100 years, with a packed weekly program covering Sports and Fitness, Health and well-being, Kids and Family, Performing Arts, Crafts and Education.

In this centenary year, they shine even brighter with a host of Events. Kicking off with a Spring fair on the 12th of March, from 12-4 pm, with lots of interesting and unique arts & crafts stalls inside and out, vintage, textiles, glorious gifts, toys and treats for all the family, Tombola, Music, Cafe and Bar.

For the first time later in the month, Sunday 26th March, from 11 am to 3 pm., the House is having its first Wedding Showcase, where you can view this beautiful Grade II listed building and a selection of amazing wedding and event suppliers for your big day. Meet some fabulous local suppliers and the venue dressed for a wedding. Free Goody Bag for the first 30 couples! The Car Park will not be used on the day, but all surrounding street parking is free.

But what about some of the other amazing activities you can do at the house regularly and this coming Easter? Here we’ve highlighted some amazing local women-owned businesses that operate from the wonderful Shrewsbury House.

Kicking off with one of my favourites is Boppin’ Bunnies

Boppin’ Bunnies Music has an exciting Easter show in the Easter Holidays at Shrewsbury House led by musicians Anna and Ellie.

for those that don’t know, Boppin’ Bunnies are a small local business set up by Anna Mellon. They are a team of talented musicians who provide weekly, interactive music classes for parents with babies & toddlers in addition to their weekend Music Shows.

They bring all their percussion instruments for everyone to use to make music together, and at every class, you will see their musicians perform live on their instruments.

They love working in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and deliver music classes at Greenwich Park, Blackheath Standard, Shrewsbury House, Hither Green and Eltham. Book here for Easter and regular weekly classes.

Children’s faces do light up in wonder when they see an instrument being played right in front of them!

If your baby is a bit younger, then a massage course with Bethanie Buchan may be what you’re looking for, suitable for baby’s six weeks to crawling. Baby massage teaches you how to bond with baby to pick up on how they are feeling and what they may be experiencing, and simple steps can help you and your baby to be more settled and comfortable.

The course also focuses on routines to help babies with colic, constipation, wind & teething. The next course starts from 9th March to 6th April; then the Aprils course will be from 13th April to 11th May. Drop-in and full courses are available, £50 for the 5-week course; please contact Bethanie via email here.
