Namaste, Bitches

I once entertained the idea of being a yoga teacher – for anyone who knows me, will now be rolling around the floor laughing.

Namaste, Bitches.

This from the person who thinks eating Bran Flakes and wearing trainers a healthy person makes. For years I’ve got by on good genes, along with the other type, made of denim.

I tried, I did. I went to classes at Tri Yoga in North London. Contacted The Wheel of Yoga. I even became vegetarian in my effort to become a clean and balanced student. (why I ever thought a good steak was blocking my path to enlightenment I’ll never know) I tried to embrace the potential yogi and failed at every turn.

Alas, there was no professional down dog in me at all.

So I was chuffed to bits when this week I meet Sabine. Not only did she do it, but she did it her way. Sabine is semi-fictional by the way and created by the very talented Summer Chastant for her six-part online TV series, Namaste, Bitches. Its genius, comedy gold with all six episodes available on the website here. It has a real Jenji Kohan vibe to it. So if you, like me love, Weeds or Orange is the New Black, then this will be right up your street.

As a yoga teacher from New York recently moved to Los Angeles with high hopes of hitting it big in the Hollywood yogi scene. She looks for a warm welcome from the local community; but is instead, greeted with a trial teaching position at a small studio, and a frosty reception from its image-obsessed instructors.

Pressured to maintain her fledgeling student base at any cost. With her moral compass tested by rival teachers, greedy studio owners, and judgmental students, and her self-destructive tendencies. When she finally “speaks her truth” will she be destroyed or catapulted to greatness?

I love it! And I think you will too; you can watch the trailer and full series here – Warning though strong language and scenes that may offend. Or have you rolling around on the floor laughing.

It shouted out to me about being authentic to one’s self and remembering to stay true. All too often as business owners, mothers, and homemakers, wives, sisters, and daughters; we feel pulled in so many different directions that it’s easy to lose sight of who we are and our own goals. It leaves us feeling like we cant see the wood for the trees and that we’re failing at every turn. Consequently, we drop a few balls, and things suffer.

I highly recommend giving it a go, especially if you need a good dose of fun, laughs and reminding yourself about your authenticity!
