Greenwich Christmas

It’s that time of year again for the spectacular that is The Greenwich lantern parade and the switching on of the Greenwich Market Christmas lights!

Children from local Primary schools will parade their colourful handmade lantern creations through the Old Royal Naval College grounds, around Cutty Sark Gardens and into the Market for the big Christmas countdown and light switch-on

Followed by live performances from Angelina Jandolo Dance and the Stagecoach Choir. 

Greenwichmums recommendsIdeal Espresso for that quick caffeine hit. Or Ruby’s of London for a more leisurely afternoon tea and cake selection. (perfect if you need Gluten Free or a vegan alternative). Top tip – pop into Gifts of the Himalayas for a secret stash of well-priced scarves and hat gifts! 

Full Programme Wednesday 16th November

11.00 am6 pm | Greenwich Market

Stalls and shops open as usual with delights from around the world at the food court. Open later than usual until 6 pm. 

4.00 – 4.50 pm | Lantern Parade

The Lantern Parade sets off from the Visitor Centre at the Old Royal Naval College. Accompanied by the Mayor of Greenwich and the brass band Danger Goat. The parade then snakes around the Old Royal Naval College and through Greenwich town centre to Cutty Sark Gardens to watch the Cutty Sark Christmas lights get switched on. Then on to Greenwich Market for the grand finale!

4.15 – 4.50 pm | Entertainment

Those gathered in Greenwich Market awaiting the Lantern Parade’s arrival will be treated to music from a DJ and competitions, including the chance to switch on the Greenwich Market Christmas lights yourself!

4.50 pm | Lantern Parade Arrives at Greenwich Market

The magical lantern parade arrives at the Market, filling the square with its magical twinkling lights.

5.00 pm | Christmas Light Switch-On

5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1… the countdown begins. Our competition winner, the Mayor and Father Christmas himself, will switch on this year’s glittering display, filling the Market with a golden glow for all the festive feels!

5.10 – 6.00 pm | Entertainment

Keep your eyes on the stage as we’re joined by the Angelina Jandolo Dance Company for tap, street dance and even a ballet duet. Followed by the beautiful sounds of the Stagecoach Choir singing some Christmas classics. 

Rounding off the night with more big brass band bangers from Danger Goat
