Out & About at Greenwich

It’s finally Half Term, slightly later than usual falling over Halloween and the bonfire weekend. But, it does give parents lots of themed event options across the borough to keep the kids entertained.

Greenwich Market is getting in the spirit of things with devilish dress up and on the 31 October you can come down and haunt the stalls & shops. You can even keep the kids entertained with frightening face-painting and free costume workshops.  And lastly, if you bring your own carved pumpkin you could even win a prize!

Running at the same time over at the Painted Hall in the Naval College there’s more creepy costume making sessions that start at 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, and 15.00pm; costing £2.00 per child. Older children and teenagers may prefer a guided tour by Greenwich Tour Guides as the walks explore the sinister side of Greenwich, with two guided evening ones filled with tales of murder and mystery. The walks, on 31 October and 3 November, can be booked on 07575 772298 – please mention Greenwichmums when calling.

Penny for the guy? Now I haven’t heard that in a long time, but here at Greenwichmums we’ve put together a list of displays across the bonfire weekend that are local AND good for families of all ages. Whether you’re traditional Blackheath all-the-way or wanting to try something new, I’m sure you’ll find something that’s easy to get to, that will give your weekend a fabulous wiz-pop-bang! If though you are planning to spend the weekend at home and have your own party then check out Ian Male’s article on winter survival which includes some really yummy winter warmers. They’ll have you guests itching for more and (being super-healthy-ish) not worrying about the consequence of a second helping. The recipes are filling, using seasonal vegetables and…. are accompanied by a great easy to follow workout, especially written for Greenwichmums by Greenwich Training.

News reached us at HQ recently that Charlton Toy Library are holding a 30th Birthday Fundraising Party on Saturday 10th November from 3-6pm. The event is not only to celebrate 30 years of the toy library but also to raise awareness of all the good things they do!

I’ve never been a clock watcher

Fancy a night out? Go on you deserve it! Our Wine O’clock Club returns on the 13th of November to the all new Greenwich Tavern, 1 King William Walk – and guess what, you’re invited. We’re always asked about ‘networking’ but this is us getting together a group of like minded women from Greenwich for a chinwag, without kids but with wine or a soft drink if you prefer. Simple, relaxed and informal the Tavern has recently changed management but still retains its charm. Gmums has the pick of the comfy sofas in a private area and I hear there’s a new cocktail list for us to try! To keep up-to-date with the Wine O’clock club further information can be found on GreenwichMums.com in the group section. You can also post here or on our Facebook page to RSVP your attendance!

P.S -If you missed my star turn (!) as special guest on Meridian radio the other week, then fear not because I am back on Sunday the 4th November between 8-10am as Co-host on the Steve Hadley Breakfast show. Why not tweet me your song requests and any special hellos you may have!  And don’t forget, if you have an event, or own or run a great Greenwich business  Then Greenwichmums would like to hear from you. Email Info@greenwichmums.com

I’m off now to compile my play list for Sunday – do you think they have the Hot-Dog Song?
