Good Food in Greenwich

Good Food in Greenwich is a partnership of individuals, organisations & businesses working towards a fairer, healthier, more sustainable Greenwich.

Goodfig-logoOur vision is to grow, produce, prepare, share and celebrate good food that is healthy, sustainable and affordable to all. We’ve been in the pipeline since 2013 when Greenwich became a Sustainable Food City as there’s so much great work going on, but have really got going in the past 9 months to move the work forward which has involved writing a charter and holding network events.

But what is good food? To us, Good Food means we’re looking at where our food comes from, how it was grown or reared, how it impacts on people and the planet, how we dispose of it, whether it enriches our society, promotes fairness and helps tackle poverty. It’s more than just the meal on your plate! Food impacts on every area of our lives and we want to engage with everyone to find out what they’re already doing, and how they can get involved. You can sign a pledge online which helps you to make changes at a pace that suits you. Pledges could include cooking more from scratch, wasting less food, growing your own, getting involved in local food projects, or lobbying your local MP to push for London Living Wage payments for all!

We’re dedicated to promoting local businesses, and Greenwich is a hot spot for entrepreneurs growing, producing and selling delicious, sustainable and healthy products; visit our Network page on the website to find these great stars. Fantastic businesses already signed up include Casa Grande, based in Eltham and the first accredited Organic Pasta Makers in the UK; Greenwich Pantry, locally run selling Fairtrade and Organic gourmet foods; The Honest Loaf cooks fresh bread using the best quality, Organic ingredients; Aden Events, offering healthy eating workshops; Season Etc, a family run deli style caterer & producer of seasonal, local, handpicked ingredients & Cassie’s Kitchen, supper clubs and pop-ups cooking fresh, homemade delicious food. There are many more, so check out the page to see who else is signed up.

There are also some great projects you can get involved with including growing and cookery clubs; check out our website for more details. In addition, we’re always looking for new people to join the Good Food in Greenwich steering group. This group meets four times a year and works towards the action plan for the whole project. Getting involved means you can have a say in how we progress and tackle important issues for Greenwich.

We know there’s already so many great things happening in Greenwich, so please get in touch to let us know what you’re up to or if you’d like to be involved in any way.
